11/26/06 - Nashville acoustic archtop guitarist Jerry Krahn will endorse the Ellsberry model "Arch de Lutan."
In addition to a "Music City" player in demand, Jerry Krahn is a noted authority on - and player/collector of - vintage Epiphone archtops (he performs and records with a ’39 Blackstone, '43 Triumph, ’49 Emperor, and a ’46 Broadway). Jerry has often been Nashville's first call when traditional archtop rhythms and styling are needed. He will take possession of his Ellsberry model "Arch de Lutan" guitar in December.
Jerry's original inquiry of Ellsberry Guitars stated "... I play vintage Epiphone archtops in traditional jazz bands, as well as contemporary settings. New archtops never seem to be able to compete with the "cannons" of the 30's and 40's, the heyday of the acoustic archtop."
He was looking for a contemporary archtop that could compliment and even rival his vintage Epiphones. Jim Ellsberry hooked up with Jerry at the Arizona Classic Jazz Festival in October, to try out the acoustic "Arch de Lutan."
Thrilled by it's big sound and "responsiveness," Jerry set aside his '43 Epi and performed a full-hour set using the "de Lutan" with the trad jazz group the Titan Hot Seven. He apparently liked what he heard. Jerry offered to acquire and endorse the "Arch de Lutan," and the arrangement was finalized in November.
Custom luthier Jim Ellsberry is likewise thrilled with the Krahn endorsement - and with Jerry's "responsiveness" to the AdL model archtop. Jerry's association with Ellsberry Archtop Guitars will broaden the reach of the Ellsberry brand to now include Nashville, the great capital of American music.
